Aids with an “X”? Nope: KIDS WITH AN AXE! The band CLOWNS have a lot to answer for. Their gig at Hamburg’s Hafenklang instigated the formation of AXIDS. Hessian Black Metal combo HYEMS’ singer was up for starting something new with the drummer of HYNE, only with more punk and snot. Ole was part of the HYNE circle, otherwise known as the man behind the Otzentreff counter, who happened to also play guitar. Then there was Mario, a Ruhrpott original who dressed as a cucumber also cuts a fine figure as a wrestler in Rock & Wrestling (St. Pauli). Mario didn’t play bass. Now he has to. After said first drummer didn’t work out (check SPINAL TAP), the band sought and found Felix, former drummer of LT. DAVE & THE VOHWINKELS and FAVORIT PARKER from Wuppertal, who completed the band. Perfect fit. Let’s go!
The aim was to write a new song each rehearsal. The lyrics had to be written within 5 minutes and were not meant to give the impression that anyone had ever put any serious thought into them. This was achieved quite successfully and everything went like clockwork. Unfortunately the pandemic prevented any plans from being made. Nevertheless towards the end of 2020 the first album was finally recorded with Roos The Boos in his rather strange but nice studio which incidentally had to be torn down shortly after the record was recorded. The mix was done pretty fast as the sound was already garage-awesome and the band didn’t want to waste too much time on genre-appropriate stuff like that.
In other words: garage meets snot in the backyard of perfection. There was no need for a car wrench attitude and a corresponding mix marathon. Philipp Welsing mastered the whole thing and it was done! The result is an unfiltered testimony of grown men with Peter Pan syndrome, who still bathe in teenage angst and live in their 80s TV world.
As sad as that may sound, the more beautiful the noise: hardcore punk from the garage. Here are the AXIDS! So come on and have some fun with it!

Aids mit einem “X”? Nope: KIDS WITH AN AXE! Auslöser für die Gründung der Band war ein Gig der Band CLOWNS im Hamburger Hafenklang. Der Sänger der hessischen Black Metal Kombo HYEMS wollte gerne etwas mit mehr Punk und Rotz machen, zusammen mit dem Drummer von HYNE. Im HYNE-Umfeld, der Band ihres ersten Drummers, gab es Ole. Ole, sonst eher als Mann hinter der Otzentreff-Theke bekannt, spielt zufällig Gitarre. Dann gab es da noch Mario. Ein Ruhrpott-Original, der als Gurke verkleidet auch eine gute Figur als Wrestler beim Rock & Wrestling (St. Pauli) macht. Mario spielte keinen Bass. Jetzt muss er. Nachdem es mit besagtem ersten Drummer nicht klappte (siehe SPINAL TAP), wurde gesucht – und gefunden: Felix, ehemaliger Drummer von LT. DAVE & THE VOHWINKELS und FAVORIT PARKER aus Wuppertal kam dazu und vervollständigte die Band. Das passte. Und los geht’s!
Das Ziel war es, jede Probe einen neuen Song zu schreiben. Die Texte mussten innerhalb von 5 Minuten geschrieben sein und durften nicht den Eindruck erwecken, dass sich hier jemand jemals ernsthafte Gedanken gemacht hat. Das wurde auch ausgesprochen erfolgreich umgesetzt und alles lief wie geschmiert. Ok, diese Pandemie machte es dann leider recht schnell unmöglich, irgendwelche Pläne zu schmieden. Nichts desto trotz konnte dann Ende 2020 endlich das erste Album bei Roos The Boos aufgenommen werden. In einem ziemlich seltsamen, aber auch nicen Studio, was kurz danach abgerissen werden musste, wurde die Platte also eingespielt. Das mit dem Mix ging schnell, weil der Sound bereits garage-geil war – und mit sowas wollte man sich ja auch schon Genre gemäß nicht allzu lange aufhalten.
Ergo: Garage trifft Rotz und zwar im Hinterhof der Perfektion. Da brauchte es keine Autoschrauber Attitude und einen dazugehörigen Mix-Marathon. Philipp Welsing hat die ganze Geschichte dann gemastert und fertig war das Ding! Rausgekommen ist ein ungefiltertes Zeugnis von (auf dem Papier) erwachsenen Männern mit Peter Pan Syndrom, die immer noch in Teenage Angst baden und in ihrer 80er Jahre TV-Welt leben.
So traurig das klingt, so schön lärmt‘s: Hardcorepunk aus der Garage. Here are the AXIDS!
