Let’s imagine: there would be music made by aliens, or by ants, or by voles, that would be really underground. What would it sound like?
Manuel Scuzzo’s music tells us nothing about a world we know. He tells us about a world we don’t know. A variation of the world, as if there were no history of mankind.
Greetings from Scuzzo is about journeys to places that don’t exist, but could. For this reason, it’s time to read Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift again. Everyone knows Lilliput, but who knows Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Laputa or Glubbdubdrib? All places that Gulliver has seen and that Manuel Scuzzo could have set to music (with sampler, synthesizer, drum machine, KaosPad, baglama, ukulele, percussion, everyday objects and field recordings).
We travel to places of another space, another time. We travel to a parallel world. It’s all about travelling: I hear a not-Turkey, a not-Egypt, a not-Saturn and a not-Japan sound. The folklore of a region that doesn’t exist. Contrasts, sounds, colours and flavours from the mind of Manuel Scuzzo. The music reminds me of the Pyrolator (and also his group DER PLAN), of the Welttraumforscher from Zurich and of some of what Brian Eno produced under the label ambient.
Briefly about Manuel Scuzzo: Manuel is very active in Hamburg. From his indie band “Misses Next Match” to the “School of Zuversicht” together with DJ Patex, to the Kraftwerk-honouring project “Umherschweifende Produzenten” to his work in the Hanseplatte and his soundwalks, walks in which he sensitises the listeners to perceive the sounds around them. The soundwalks form the basis, so to speak, for Greetings from Scuzzo. (Knarf Rellöm)

Manuel Scuzzos Musik erzählt uns nichts über eine Welt, die wir kennen. Er erzählt uns von einer Welt, die wir nicht kennen. Eine Variation der Welt, wie wenn es eine Geschichte der Menschheit nicht gäbe.
Es geht auf Greetings from Scuzzo um Reisen an Orte, die es nicht gibt, die es aber geben könnte. Es wird Zeit aus diesem Grund mal wieder in Gullivers Reisen von Jonathan Swift hineinzulesen. Jeder kennt Lilliput, aber wer kennt Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Laputa oder Glubbdubdrib? Alles Orte die Gulliver gesehen hat und die Manuel Scuzzo vertont haben könnte (mit Sampler, Synthesizer, Drummachine, KaosPad, Baglama, Ukulele, Percussion, Alltagsgegenständen und Field Recordings).
Wir reisen an Orte eines anderen Raumes, einer anderen Zeit. Wir reisen in eine Parallelwelt. Überhaupt geht es um Reisen: ich höre eine nicht – Türkei, einen nicht – Ägypten, einen nicht – Saturn und ein nicht – Japan. Die Folklore einer Gegend, die es nicht gibt. Kontraste, Klänge, Farben und Aromen aus dem Kopf von Manuel Scuzzo. Die Musik erinnert mich an den Pyrolator (und auch seine Gruppe DER PLAN), an den Welttraumforscher aus Zürich und an Einiges, was Brian Eno unter dem Label Ambient hergestellt hat.
Kurz zur Person Manuel Scuzzo: Manuel ist sehr aktiv in Hamburg. Von seiner IndieBand „Misses Next Match“ über die „School of Zuversicht“ zusammen mit DJ Patex, über das Kraftwerk – huldigende Projekt „Umherschweifende Produzenten“ zu seiner Arbeit in der Hanseplatte und seinen Soundwalks, Spaziergänge, bei denen er die Zuhörer sensibilisiert, die Klänge um sie herum wahrzunehmen.
