The band Tausend Augen is founded in January 2017 by Alexander Schimetzky (drums), Max Ludwig (bass, vocals) and Oliver Becker (synthesizer, guitar, vocals) in Saarbrücken, Germany. Looking for something that will grab the three of them and make them musically enthusiastic, they soon find themselves at the roots of experimental and innovative rock music. This free and pioneering spirit inspires and infects, and their sound combines electronic music, psychedelic rock, motor skills, post punk and noise with German lyrics.

In 2019, they produced a very original record in their own project studio, which is housed in a former air-raid shelter. The record will pick up the musical tradition of Can, Neu! or even Kraftwerk, while at the same time being clearly located in the here and now with its international, contemporary sound. The 70s meet the 80s - and so the pioneer NDW a la Abwärts or DAF, which defined later postpunk, finds a place just as much as the stoic rhythms of NEU! or The Oh Sees!

With their music, Tausend Augen formulates aural alchemy that is a symbiosis of elements both old and new, fabricating a sound from the past for the future. Their aesthetics result from the utilization of 50-year-old microphones, compressors, tape recorders, vintage organs, synthesizers, guitars, and modern recording technology. Westend, their debut album, echoes familiarity and yet feels distinct and foreign; it converts the sonic frequencies between musical epochs."  Post-Punk.com

comments the band: "Before the pandemic the plan was to record the album in a fancy studio in Liverpool, but after having to postpone the session again and again, the decision was made to record and mix it by ourselves at home in Germany. This gave us the time and quiet to carve out a sound with various individual influences and blend them into what can be heard on Westend: Play less and straight, reduce to break loose, minimize to maximize, change through repetition, don‘t take the first exit - keep going."

Comments the band: "The song is the only song on the album that was recorded completely different from the way we used to play it live. The text only consist of about 30 words and is pretty open for interpretations. Most of the lyrics on the album are more or less influenced by early science fiction stories, so I guess Silberne Maschinen is no exception. It’s a vision of a future how people might have imagined it 50 or 60 years ago."

"The first single from their new album ‘Westend‘, out this January via German label This Charming Man Records, ‘Silberne Machinen‘ provides your ears with DEVO-esque, synth heavy hypnotic kraut-rock vibes whilst the visuals are an eye-melting treat."

Diffus
